Munich - The Performance Days exhibition, which was scheduled to take place in Munich in December, has been cancelled as a result of ongoing travel restrictions imposed to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead, the specialist outdoor and sportswear show will hold an online event.

"Many Performance Days visitors, as well as exhibitors, have already announced that travelling to Munich in December would be simply impossible for them," organisers said in a statement. "Due to the increasing number of infections, further international travel bans and company-internal travel restrictions are now threatening. As a result, the December 2020 edition of Performance Days will unfortunately not take place at the Messe München, but as a Digital Fair! On the planned dates of December 09-10, both approved and advanced new tools will go online and provide further proof of Performance Days’ expansion of its pioneering role in creating a digital textile trade fair experience."

Performance Days launched its Digital Fair in April 2020 in response to initial pandemic outbreak.

The site offers various resources, such as the online sourcing of materials, which can be ordered directly, as well as digitalized trends and colours. The December edition will also see a number of new supplementary features. “We’ve done our homework,” explains fair founder and owner Marco Weichert. “We were not only one of the first organisers to launch a digital textile fair with our fair in April – but have managed to further develop and optimise the concept and functions.”

When logging in to the Digital Fair, visitors will now have the option to input their specific areas of interests. The site will then use its targeted matchmaking functions to match those requests and offer suggestions from relevant exhibitors/suppliers.

The updated site will also include new call, chat and video chat functions, which will enable digital visitors to enter into dialogue with exhibitors. This function is designed to complement the digital collections with technical data sheets and video presentations, which now allow for questions to be discussed directly. This feature will be available during the two days of the trade fair on December 9-10, and for another 14 days after.

Forum

The online show will also see the Performance Forum Jury reconvene to curate the most innovative and sustainable fabrics and raw materials on show. In addition to the curated Jury selections, exhibitors will also be able to present their latest collections in the Performance Days marketplace under a number concepts covering a range of different materials, trends and innovations.

The Focus Topic, meanwhile, will be under the theme, 'Nothing to Waste - Closing the Loop', where Performance Days will take a closer look at the status quo of the textile circular economy.

The online resource will also include a number of talks and presentations covering topics such as 'Sustain & Innovate' and the 'Circular Economy'.
