EU testing finds widespread knitwear label failures

EU market surveillance testing has found material labelling errors in more than a third of sampled garments, with implications for traceability, recycling and fair competition

For knitting and hosiery producers, the results underline the importance of accurate fibre identification in yarn selection

BRUSSELS - The European Commission has reported that an EU-wide testing campaign found inaccurate fibre labelling in 49 of 132 clothing items, inclduing knitwear, raising concerns for textile compliance and traceability across the supply chain.

The campaign, supported by DG GROW, covered garments purchased in eight EU countries and tested at an accredited laboratory in Italy.
