Spinners adopting FibreTrace technology to link polyester filament yarn with production records and support knits supply chain verification

Greensboro – Polyester filament yarn manufacturers across North and Central America have launched YarnProof, a collective initiative using FibreTrace technology to verify material origin throughout the textile supply chain.

The programme aims to give manufacturers and brands physical evidence to support sourcing records and regional trade compliance.

The technology incorporates an invisible tracer into polyester filament during extrusion. According to FibreTrace, the tracer provides an origin signature that remains within the material through subsequent processing and throughout the product’s life.

A FibreTrace handheld scanner detects the tracer in real time in yarn, knitted fabric or finished products. Each scan by an authorised participant creates a verification event linking the physical material to supporting production and sourcing records.

For knitwear manufacturers sourcing participating producers’ polyester filament yarns, the system offers a means of checking origin downstream, rather than relying on documentation alone.

YarnProof is intended to work alongside existing documentation and provide additional assurance supporting the yarn-forward requirements of the Central America–Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) and the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA), positioning physical verification as a supporting layer of evidence, rather than a replacement for compliance records.

The participating manufacturers are Aquafil O’Mara, CS America, CS Central America, Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, America, Premiere Fibers, Skytex México, Tecnología Textil Avanzada, Textufil, Unifi Manufacturing and United Textiles of America. The collaboration brings together regional polyester filament suppliers around a shared approach to origin verification.

“By collectively adopting physical verification of materials, they are moving beyond individual origin claims and creating a shared verification framework that connects physical evidence with supporting production and sourcing records,” said Danielle Statham, founder and owner of FibreTrace.

YarnProof is identified as a Unifi trademark in the US and other regions.
